UPDATE: More images and official press release added.

The big news for the revised 2008 Nissan Pathfinder lies within the cabin and under the hood. Powering the updated Pathfinder is an optional 317hp, 5.6-liter V-8 engine that will be offered in addition to the standard 266-hp V-6 that currently sees duty in so many of Nissan’s vehicles.

The interior gets a new center stack, a navigation system and a hard-drive based entertainment system. If you look closely at the outside you’ll notice a revised grille and slight changes to the front and back ends. PRESS RELEASE: 2008 Nissan Pathfinder

Nissan Pathfinder Powers Into 2008 With Available V8, More Options and Adventure-Friendly Features

For the last 22 years, Nissan's Pathfinder has stood out as an innovative, rugged SUV capable of handling adventures both on and off-road. For 2008, that capability reaches a new level with an available 5.6-liter V8 rated at 300-plus horsepower and 380-plus lb-ft of torque – the first time a V8 has ever been offered in Pathfinder. The new V8 engine is offered in addition to a 4.0-liter V6 engine. Both engines are available with 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive, giving buyers a wide range of engine/driveline configurations to meet their specific performance needs and desires. The 2008 Pathfinder goes on sale in spring 2007.

Pathfinder also receives myriad other updates and improvements for the 2008 model year, including new front and rear styling, new wheel designs (excluding S-V6 trim), available 18-inch wheels and two new exterior colors – White Frost and Mocha. Inside, Pathfinder adds new features including a heated steering wheel (LE models only), a redesigned center console area, reclining 2nd row seat center section, new illuminated switchgear (all models except S-V6), new trim packages, Intelligent Key with twist start (LE models only), Bluetooth® hands-free phone system (LE models only) and revised Nissan Navigation System with 9.3-gigabyte Music Box hard drive (available on LE models only).

Pathfinder continues to offer standard three-row seating, exceptional storage capacity and is again built on a fully boxed, all-steel frame based on the full-size Armada.

"The V8 Pathfinder adds a new dimension to the nameplate that established Nissan's SUV leadership nearly 22 years ago," said Bill Bosley, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America, Inc.
"Pathfinder, with its own distinctive style, available technology features, flexible interior design and now two available powerplants re-establishes its place atop its segment."

A Powerful And Rugged Adventure Partner
Following the introduction of a new, advanced 4.0-liter V6 for the 2005 model year, Pathfinder is now available with a powerful 5.6-liter DOHC 32-valve V8 engine, producing 300-plus horsepower and 380-plus lb-ft of torque and giving Pathfinder a maximum towing capacity of 7,000 pounds, versus V6-equipped Pathfinders' 6,000-pound rating. The V8 engine package is offered in two new Pathfinder models, SE-V8 and LE-V8, both available in 4x2 and 4x4 drive configurations.

Pathfinder's Endurance V8, assembled at Nissan's advanced engine facility in Decherd, Tenn., is shared with the full-size Nissan Titan pickup and Nissan Armada SUV. The engine's advanced design includes features such as an aluminum engine block with cast iron cylinder liners, chain-driven dual overhead camshafts with silent single-stage timing chain for quiet operation and durability, and electronic drive-by-wire throttle for precise control. For greater efficiency, graphite-coated pistons, microfinished forged steel crankshaft and microfinished camshaft help reduce friction.

Standard on Pathfinder S-V6, SE-V6, SE-V6 Off Road and LE-V6 models is an advanced 4.0-liter DOHC V6, rated at 266 horsepower and 288 lb-ft torque. This specially tuned engine, created for SUV and truck applications, is part of Nissan's award-winning VQ engine series found in the 350Z, Maxima, Altima, Murano and Quest.

The 4.0-liter version features a longer stroke than the 3.5-liter version (92.0 mm versus 81.4 mm), and includes Electronic Throttle Control with secondary mapping in 4LO (4x4 models), Continuous Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS), Nissan variable Induction Control System (NICS), silent timing chain, microfinished camshaft and crankshaft surfaces, molybdenum-coated pistons and lightweight aluminum block.

Backing both engines is a standard electronically controlled 5-speed automatic transmission. The transmission, which is specially tuned for each engine application, features a wide gear ratio spread for maximum acceleration performance and a Direct Control System to provide smooth shift quality.

Pathfinder is offered with several advanced 4x4 systems. Pathfinder V8 4x4 models feature a special full-time XN All-Mode 4-wheel drive system that can instantly distribute torque to all four wheels whenever road conditions warrant (up to 50 percent can go to the front wheels on demand), resulting in optimal traction with improved fuel economy and enhanced cornering capability.

Pathfinder V6 4x4 models are available with a part-time 4-wheel drive system (S, SE, SE Off-Road) or an All-Mode 4-wheel drive system that includes 2WD/AUTO/4H/4LO modes and electronically controlled transfer case (LE).

Enhanced 4-wheel drive capability is offered on the SE-V6 Off Road model. Special features include an advanced 4-Wheel Limited-Slip system (ABLS), which helps limit wheel slip when starting on low traction surfaces; Hill Descent Control, which, when engaged by the driver via a switch, allows for going downhill in both forward and reverse at speeds up to 31 mph (4HI) or 15 mph (4LO) without the constant application of the brake pedal; and always-active (2WD or 4WD) Hill Start Assist allows the driver to stop on a slope, release the brake pedal and not roll back for up to two seconds, perfect for rugged, low-speed off-road driving situations.

Standard on all Pathfinder models is a responsive engine-speed-sensitive power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering system and 4-wheel disc brakes with 4-wheel, 4-channel, 4-sensor Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with G-sensor and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD).

A Solid Foundation For Go-Anywhere Activities
The 2008 Pathfinder utilizes Nissan's "F-Alpha" platform, with a fully boxed, all-steel ladder frame providing a solid mounting point for the stylish body and the four-wheel independent double-wishbone suspension, as well as a standard integrated tow hitch.

Pathfinder's long-travel front suspension is an all-steel double-wishbone design with coil-over shocks and large stabilizer bar. For smooth ride quality and optimized handling, the rear suspension is an independent double-wishbone design with the coils located on the toe control link (offset spring and shock) with stabilizer bar. SE-V6 Off Road models offer special Bilstein® branded performance shocks.

Standard underbody component protection puts a plate under the radiator, with SE-V6 Off Road models offering extra off-road peace of mind by providing additional skid plates for the oil pan, fuel tank and transfer case.
Wheel packages vary by Pathfinder model. S-V6 models offer standard 16-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 245/75R16 tires, while 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels are offered on SE-V6 with 265/65R17 tires, and special machine-finished 16-inch off-road style aluminum-alloy wheels with rugged 265/75R16 tires are standard on SE-V6 Off Road models. LE-V6 models offer 17-inch machine-finished aluminum-alloy wheels with 265/65R17 tires, and SE-V8 and LE-V8 models feature special 18-inch machine-finished aluminum-alloy wheels and 265/60R18 tires. All Pathfinders provide a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and full-size spare tire.

Powerful Exterior Styling
With new front and rear styling, Pathfinder looks even more the part of a go-anywhere rugged and sophisticated SUV. Large headlamps, angled strut-style grille and a sweeping hood hint at the power underneath.

Pathfinder's broad shoulder line, large integrated fender flares covering purposeful wheel and tire combinations and distinctive C-pillar with high-mounted rear door handles give the 2008 Pathfinder its own unique look, while proudly resembling the larger Armada SUV.

A long wheelbase of 112.2 inches allows for a roomy three-row cabin while providing ride comfort and stability. Pathfinder's manageable 192.5-inch overall length and short front and rear overhangs enable drivers to feel comfortable driving or parking the capable SUV on almost any terrain.

Additional exterior highlights include standard roof rails with integrated front and rear grips, rear tailgate design with flip-up rear glass hatch opening and rear privacy glass. Pathfinder also offers side running boards on SE and LE trims, fog lamps (standard on all trim levels except S-V6), heated outside mirrors and power slide and tilt sunroof.

Two new colors – Mocha and White Frost –add to Pathfinder's 2008 palette of exterior colors. White Frost is a special, premium three-stage pearl paint with added luster. Pathfinder LE models also feature new body-color side moldings with chrome inserts.

An Interior Design To Enhance Active Family Lifestyles
The 2008 Pathfinder includes a number of interior enhancements, including a restyled interior with a new instrument panel center stack design, a revised front center console (all models except S-V6), new upper door trim (all models except S-V6), new automatic transmission shifter with special grip (all models except S-V6), new heated steering wheel (LE models) and illuminated switchgear (all models except S-V6). Other enhancements include a new standard color 7.0-inch Multi-Function Information Display with RearView Monitor (all models except S-V6), a new reclining function for the center portion of the 2nd row seat (all models except S-V6). Additionally, a new interior leather color, Russet, has been added.

"Pathfinder buyers are flexible in their needs – one day driving the family to an in-town adventure, the next day going camping with the family dogs," said Bosley. "The 2008 Pathfinder is a perfect tool for all of those tasks, with 7-passenger seating and up to 64 different seating/cargo configurations."

Standard seating includes flat-folding 3rd row seat, 40/20/40 split separate-folding 2nd row seats with easy one-touch release lever for 3rd row access and a fold-down front passenger seat (except S-V6 and LE). An Easy-Clean rear cargo area (SE and SE-OR trim only) with 12 utility hooks provides flexibility for hauling adventure gear or luggage for an extended road trip. Storage areas are plentiful, including eight cup holders and an overhead console with sunglass storage. Utility is also enhanced with four 12-volt outlets (two on instrument panel center stack, one for 2nd row and one cargo area), front seatback pockets, plentiful passenger assist grips and available rear reading lamps (standard on all but S-V6), outside temperature gauge (standard on SE-OR and LE) and cargo net (standard on all but S-V6).

Additional standard equipment includes power windows with driver and front passenger auto-up/down and safety reverse, power door locks, tilt steering wheel, remote keyless entry, trip computer and climate control system.

Chicago: 2008 Nissan Titan

UPDATE: More images and the official press release added.

Nissan entered the full-size truck market with the Titan in 2004, but it didn’t endear itself to many truck fans. The 2008 model will arrive this spring sporting the new corporate truck face seen on the new Pathfinder and Armada. It will also come in a long-wheelbase version. There’s also a new trim called PRO-4, which joins the XE, SE and LE versions.

Inside the Titan we see some upgraded materials and a lot of new features, like optional Bluetooth hands-free calling, heated leather seats and a DVD entertainment system.

Power comes from a 317-hp, 385 pounds-feet of torque V-8 engine that’s rated to tow 9,500 pounds. That figure doesn’t match new offerings from Toyota and Chevrolet, which both best the 10,000-pound mark.

PRESS RELEASE: 2008 Nissan Titan

Rugged Utility and Performance Additions Beef Up 2008 Titan's Work and Play Capabilities

– Long Wheelbase Option, PRO-4X Off-Road Grade Bring A Strong "Any Job, Any Place" Dimension to Titan Lineup –

For 2008, the Nissan Titan full-size pickup builds on its already extensive résumé with the addition of a new Long Wheelbase (LWB) version and a new Titan PRO-4X model, designed to enhance Titan's already strong reputation as the truck of choice for work or adventure. The 2008 Titan, which will be available in spring 2007, is now offered in four models – XE, SE, PRO-4X and LE; two cab styles – King Cab and Crew Cab; four bed lengths – 5'6" and 7' for Crew Cab, 6'6" and 8' for King Cab; 4x2 and 4x4 drive configurations; and continued from last year, Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV) capability (E85 Ethanol) as a no-cost option.

The new Titan LWB models feature a longest-in-class* 7' bed with the Crew Cab body configuration and an 8' bed with the King Cab body. Titan LWB models also include a new largest-in-class* 37-gallon fuel tank for increased driving range. The new Titan PRO-4X model offers a special off-road equipment package, including Rancho® shock absorbers, a lower final gear ratio, two additional skid plates, electronic locking rear differential, white-faced interior gauges, body-color exterior trim and special interior styling and trim.

The 2008 Titan also features freshened styling, with a revised front end, wheel lip moldings and all-new wheel styles. Inside, Titan features a new seat design and refined meter clusters.

Other 2008 Titan enhancements include available Bluetooth® hands-free phone system, factory-installed XM® satellite radio tuner, heated leather-appointed bench seat, a revised center stack and a larger, 8.0-inch DVD screen (up from 7.0-inch). A new beige interior color and two new exterior colors – Desert Stone and Timberline – are now available.

Titan continues to boast first-in-class* innovations such as Wide-Open rear doors (King Cab) that open nearly 180 degrees for unobstructed rear cab access, an available high-utility bed that includes an industry-exclusive factory-applied spray-on bedliner, a Utili-track tie-down system that provides ultimate cargo hauling flexibility and a segment-exclusive integrated, lockable bedside storage compartment.

"The Titan lineup continues to expand in terms of both selection and flexibility, giving Titan buyers the perfect choice for just about any work or adventure need they might have," said Bill Bosley, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division. "The PRO-4X and Long Wheelbase Titans embody our full-size truck philosophy, allowing drivers to take more cargo across more terrain in style and comfort."

New Titan PRO-4X Model
Titan's all-new PRO-4X trim offers drivers outstanding off-road flexibility, pairing Titan's already impressive list of standard equipment features with the PRO-4X's off-road performance enhancements.

The PRO-4X features Rancho performance shock absorbers, a lower final drive ratio (to 3.357), additional skid plates on the oil pan and transfer case, a class-exclusive Electronic Locking Rear Differential and unique 18-inch aluminum-alloy off-road wheels with off-road style center caps and largest-in-class* P275/70R18 all-terrain tires.

Inside, the PRO-4X receives styling cues that differentiate it from the rest of the Titan lineup with unique meters and gauges, seats featuring an embroidered PRO-4X logo, red stitching and available leather-appointed red-stitched shifter knob and steering wheel.

All PRO-4Xs feature body-colored grille and bumpers, an identifying decal over the rear fender and a number of subtle exterior trim components to achieve a sportier look.

A Refined Engine with Outstanding Towing Power
For 2008, every Titan again offers Nissan's advanced Endurance V8 as standard equipment. The all-aluminum 5.6-liter V8 engine received an increase for the 2007 model year to 317 horsepower and 385 lb-ft of torque, ratings that continue in 2008. The use of advanced engine technology such as aluminum block with cast iron cylinder liners, forged steel crankshaft, microfinished crankshaft and camshaft, graphite-coated pistons, 6-bolt main bearing caps, and Super Silent single-stage timing chain result in enhanced fuel economy with no sacrifice of performance.

The 2008 Titan will again be available with Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV) technology as a no-cost option. Equipped with a common fuel tank designed to run on varying blends of gasoline with ethanol (up to E85) or other fuel, Titan FFV offers an alternative to conventional gasoline, utilizing the growing number of alternative-fuel stations in the United States.

Titan's standard 5-speed automatic transmission was designed especially for heavy-duty truck use, with emphasis on serious towing. Each component was created for full-size truck application, and a wide gear ratio was used to create a high performance control system producing top-class acceleration, power and shift quality. For 4WD models, Titan adapts an advanced shift-on-the-fly 4-wheel drive system with 2WD/4HI/4LO modes with electronic control part-time transfer case.

Titan features a maximum towing capacity of 9,500 pounds for King Cab and 9,400 pounds for Crew Cab (when properly equipped) – as much as some 3/4-ton pickups.

Titan utilizes a rugged, fully boxed high-strength all-steel F-Alpha platform for enhanced crash performance and long-term durability.

Titan's responsive handling is a product of its all-steel double wishbone front suspension design and overslung leaf spring (dual rate) rear suspension with shackles mounted along the frame sides to increase departure angle.
For 2008, Titan offers new standard 18-inch wheels on XE, SE and PRO-4X models and new 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels as standard on the Titan LE.

Power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering is standard, along with 4-wheel disc brakes with Bosch Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD).

A Refined Interior For 2008
Titan's interior features refined styling for 2008 with new seat styling, new meter design and added differentiation between each model grade.

Access to the King Cab's interior is aided by its standard Wide-Open rear doors that swing open nearly 180 degrees, providing unprecedented access to the rear seats. Key to the door's design is a hefty, two-stage hinge with four axis of rotation. The door opens first to a conventional 85 degrees, then can be swung the rest of the way up to 168 degrees.

Two interior configurations are available – a standard bench seat with column shifter, which seats six passengers or an optional Captain's Chair Package with two front bucket seats, which seats five passengers and offers a large center console and gated floor shifter.

The center console can hold a variety of beverage containers, including a 1-liter bottle. A 12-volt adapter is equipped in the storage area and can be used as a power source for a phone or other electronic devices.

The storage in the center console offers passengers a variety of storage choices, with size adjusted by simply removing or adding dividers. The console's storage box can also accommodate hanging file folders and contains holders for maps, paper, pens and business cards on the console lid.

Among the Titan's many interior features are standard flip-up 60/40 rear seat cushions for added cargo space and flexibility, with grocery hooks on the bottom of the seat cushions. The rear floor was designed to be nearly flat for maximum cargo utility.

The Crew Cab's rear seat is large and relaxing, with a full 24 degrees of seat back angle, helping passengers take full advantage of the Crew Cab's Titan's 126 cubic feet of available space, including front and rear seat leg room of 41.8 inches and 40.4 inches, respectively. Both King Cab and Crew Cab Titans' rear compartments offer ample rear storage, including door storage bins and rear door bottle holders in the armrests and available power front windows with one-touch auto up/down function (not available on King Cab XE models). All Titan Crew Cab models feature a standard power down/up rear bed access cab window.

An available overhead console system gives passengers more storage options. The console houses rear audio controls and also contains dampened storage bins for both front and rear passengers for items like sunglasses, CDs, cell phone, PDA or a small tissue box. Crew Cab models offer an optional rear-seat DVD Mobile Theatre System with fold-down 8.0-inch monitor, up in 2008 from the previous model's 7.0-inch screen.

Titan features an available fold-flat front passenger seat that allows extra versatility and can also be used as a working area. Additionally, available power-adjustable front seats with a driver's seat memory system and heated seats provide added convenience. Titan also offers available power-adjustable foot pedals with memory.

A Dynamic Exterior Design and High Utility Bed
For the new model year, Crew Cab Titans will be offered as a Standard Wheelbase Model, with a 5-foot-6-inch bed, or a Long Wheelbase Model that offers the longest Crew Cab bed in class, measuring a full 7'. King Cab Standard and Long Wheelbase models will feature beds 6'6" and 8' long, respectively. All Long Wheelbase Models feature a largest-in-class* 37-gallon fuel tank, lengthening Titan's driving distance between fill-ups.
Titan's available spray-on bedliner helps prevent scratch damage and corrosion to the bed and inner tailgate surface. Thinner than drop-in bedliners or typical aftermarket spray-on applications, the Titan bedliner also maximizes bed volume. It is the first offered by any original equipment manufacturer and is covered by the Nissan warranty.

Also available is the Utili-track tie-down channel system, with five special "C" cross-section rails that are mounted in the bed (two channels in the bed floor, and one each on the bed side rails and the bed header panel).
Removable utility cleats (rated at 200 pounds) slide into the channels, providing a wide range of attaching points for cargo tie-down. The channels are open at the rear of the bed, allowing the cleats to be completely removed when not in use for easy cleaning.

Nissan offers an extensive line of bed dividers, sliding cargo trays and modular storage units, along with bike and kayak racks and other accessories.

The Titan bed also includes four standard stake pockets and, as required for a working pickup, carries 4x8-foot plywood sheets easily between the wheel housings. Titan's bed includes a standard dampened tailgate assist that aids in the effort to open and close the tailgate.

Titan also features an innovative bedside storage compartment located behind the rear driver's side wheel. The bedside storage bin is designed to hold common truck items such as work gloves, chains, rope, road flares, first aid kit or a hitch ball.

The compartment is double-sealed to help prevent the intrusion of water and dust (though the compartment is not designed to be waterproof in case of submersion) and uses the Titan ignition key for unlocking.

Safety and Security
The 2008 Titan includes a long list of safety equipment, including Nissan's Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual stage front supplemental air bags with seat belt sensors and a front passenger occupant classification sensor; available front seat-mounted side-impact and roof-mounted supplemental curtain air bags that help provide side-impact and rollover protection for outboard passengers; front seat belts with adjustable upper anchors, pretensioners and load limiters; front seat Active Head Restraints; three-point rear passenger seat belts; and LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) child seat anchor system.

Driver and passenger confidence is accentuated with an extensive list of vehicle-incorporated safety features including a Zone Body construction with front and rear structure crumple zones, an energy absorbing steering column, hood buckling creases with safety stops, knee bolsters and special body side reinforcements and a shift interlock system.

2008 Model Lineup and Manufacturing
The 2008 Nissan Titan King Cab and Titan Crew Cab are offered in four models – XE, SE and LE, each with a choice of 4x2 and 4x4 drive configurations – and PRO-4X (4WD only).

Each is offered with a long list of standard equipment including a powerful 5.6-liter Endurance V8, 5-speed automatic transmission with Tow/Haul mode, power rack-and-pinion steering and 18-inch wheels and tires.

Titan XE models are equipped with a standard 40/20/40 split front bench seat with a center seat fold-down armrest storage bin, split fold-up rear seat and three-point seat belts for five positions. XE and SE 2WD models are available with a Traction Package (standard on LE) that includes 2-wheel limited slip (ABLS) and front tow hooks.

The new PRO-4X grade adds 18 x 8J alloy wheels with off-road-style center cap, largest-in-class* P275/70R18 off-road tires, body-color front and rear bumpers and grille, a lockable bedside storage box, unique interior features including unique meters and gauges, splash guards, the off-road equipment detailed above and auto on/off headlamps.

Titan SE models include standard 5-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels and P265/70R18 tires and chrome steel center bumper, while LE models add 6-spoke 20-inch alloy wheels, standard high-utility bed, leather-appointed seating, Rockford Fosgate®-powered audio system with eight speakers, dual-zone auto-climate control system and power folding mirrors with heat, power adjust, auto dim, and integrated turn signal.

Optional SE equipment packages include a Popular Package (equipped with split bench seat or bucket seats) including upgraded audio system with steering wheel audio controls, rearview mirror, temperature and UGDO, proximity sensors and adjustable pedals; and Popular Rockford Fosgate Package, which includes Popular Package contents plus premium sound Rockford Fosgate-powered audio system and, new for 2008, Bluetooth® hands-free phone system and XM® satellite radio tuner.

Chicago: 2008 Nissan Armada

UPDATE: More images and the official press release added.

For 2008, Nissan decided to keep things simple, giving a uniformed look to the Titan, Pathfinder and Armada — at least around the front. Otherwise, the new Armada’s massive bulk gets little nipped and tucked besides some new light treatments and a rear-end adjustment.

There are several new interior features, including a much improved center stack, power-folding third-row seats, an optional heated steering wheel, an intelligent key system, a hard-drive-based entertainment system, Bluetooth hands-free calling and a DVD navigation system with live traffic updates.

Inside the new SUV offers a 3rd row power folding 60/40 seat (optional LE), new interior colors and fabrics, new gated shifter, new woodgrain accents (LE only), heated steering wheel (LE only), a lockable glove compartment and revised steering wheel and combination meter illumination. New technology enhancements include an Intelligent Key with twist start (standard LE, optional SE), enhanced Bose® sound system with Music Box hard drive and 3rd row speakers and amplifier (standard LE, optional SE), Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone System (standard on LE), improved available Nissan Navigation system with a XM® NavTraffic™ system with real-time traffic information (XM contract required) and a larger 8.0-inch screen for the optional DVD Entertainment Package.

"With its enhanced appearance and functionality, the 2008 Armada is more worthy than ever of Nissan's flagship SUV status," said Bill Bosley, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division.

"Between its exterior style, luxurious interior, utility features, seating for eight, available technology features and environmentally-conscious Flexible Fuel Vehicle option, Armada is the complete package," he continued.
With customer-friendly features like three-row, eight-passenger seating, ample 2nd row leg room, roof-mounted curtain air bags for all three rows and up to 9,100-pound maximum towing capacity, Armada has been awarded the top honors in two customer opinion-based studies - buyer-perceived overall quality by the Strategic Vision research firm in the Large SUV class of its 2006 Total Quality Index, and "Most Appealing Large Premium Multi-Activity Vehicle" by J.D. Power and Associates' 2006 Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout (APEAL) study.

Armada's strength comes from a 5.6-liter V8 producing 317 horsepower and 385 lb-ft of torque, with available Flexible Fuel Vehicle technology (FFV), allowing drivers to use traditional gasoline or an alternative fuel such as E85, a mix containing 85 percent renewable ethanol and 15 percent gasoline.

Distinguished Exterior Image
Armada's distinctive styling mixes modern cues with traditional ruggedness, only enhanced by the aggressive new front fascia styling with new front fog lamps, new halogen headlamp design, new one-piece roof rack design and new front and rear body-color fascias. New 20-inch wheels complete the look (LE model).

With a wide stance, long wheelbase and short front and rear overhangs, Armada expresses its stability, maneuverability and exceptional cargo room with one glance. The headlamp, grille and hood design offer a powerful front look, while the A-, B-, C- and D- pillars offer a tight, polished aspect to the body structure. The new rear fascia and tailgate area, with sturdy bumper design provide a "reinforced" look and project Armada's structural integrity.

Additional exterior features include a large body-color grille (SE, metallic finish on LE), chrome front door handles, chrome dual power-adjustable heated side mirrors (with power folding, puddle lamps and integrated turn signal on LE models), side step rails, privacy glass for the 2nd and 3rd rows and rear tailgate (power tailgate optional on SE, standard on LE), separate tailgate opening glass, manual flip-out rear quarter windows (power-operated on LE models) and new-design full roof rack with cross bars. All models are also offered with a standard rear bumper-mounted rear proximity sensor system (back-up obstacle warning), and a front proximity sensor/sonar system is also available.

A Versatile Interior for Active Lifestyles
Armada's interior is highly functional and ergonomic, without sacrificing style and ruggedness. New interior colors and materials set off the 2008 model, with an available 3rd row power folding seat (LE), heated steering wheel (LE), new steering wheel illuminated controls, revised combination meter colors and designs, new gated shifter design, lockable glove compartment and new wood grain accents (LE). New available technology features include revised audio system with 3rd row audio speakers and amplifier (LE), Intelligent Key with twist start (LE, optional SE), Bluetooth® Hands-Free Phone System (standard on LE), a larger 8.0-inch screen for the optional DVD Entertainment Package (up from 7.0 inches) and an improved Nissan Navigation system with a XM NavTraffic system with real-time traffic information (XM contract required).

Room and versatility is important to large SUV customers, and Armada delivers ample 2nd row leg room, up to 8-passenger seating, standard fold-flat 2nd and 60/40 split fold-flat 3rd row seats, fold flat front passenger seat with cup holders and recessed work area and large cargo space behind the 3rd row seat. More utility and storage space is offered by a full-length overhead console with six map lights, center console with large storage capacity, multiple pockets and bins throughout the cabin, up to 14 cupholders and four 12-volt power outlets (two in front, one 2nd row, one for cargo area).

In front, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat and available 6-way adjustable front passenger's seat provide comfort and luxury, and Seton leather-appointed seats are available in the 1st and 2nd rows (standard LE, optional SE). 3rd row occupants are placed higher than the 2nd row to facilitate easier conversation and better visibility for the occupants. Other luxury features include standard dual zone climate control, rear air conditioning, remote keyless entry, power adjustable brake and accelerator pedals, and AM/FM/6CD audio system with steering wheel controls and mp3 playback capability.

Also available are fold-flat 2nd row captain's chairs with an innovative, removable 2nd row center console and an 11-speaker Bose® audio system with dual media capability, allowing use of radio and CD at the same time (headphones must be used to listen to second audio source) and RearView Monitor.

Full-Size Foundation and Adventure-Ready Driveline
2008 Armada features the rugged F-Alpha fully boxed frame and 4-wheel independent double-wishbone suspension with coil-over shock absorbers and stabilizer bar, combining on- and off-road comfort with responsive handling characteristics.

The independent rear suspension design, with its minimal intrusion into the interior, maximizes space, and an automatic rear air leveling system (optional SE, standard LE) improves stability and ride comfort when towing or carrying heavy cargo. The system automatically adjusts air pressure in the suspension bladders to maintain a uniform ground clearance and departure angle.

The heart of every Armada is its 317 horsepower 5.6-liter DOHC 32-valve V8 engine with 385 lb-ft of torque. The V8 is tuned to provide nearly 90 percent of the engine's torque below 2,500 rpm – where it's needed for hauling, towing or slow-speed off-road driving. Available Flexible Fuel Vehicle technology allows drivers to use traditional gasoline or an alternative fuel such as E85.

Assembled at Nissan's advanced engine facility in Decherd, Tenn., the Armada's Nissan Endurance V8 includes advanced features such as an aluminum engine block with cast iron cylinder liners, chain-driven dual overhead camshafts with silent single-stage timing chain, and electronic drive-by-wire throttle for precise control. For greater efficiency through reduced friction, the V8 uses graphite-coated pistons, microfinished forged steel crankshaft and microfinished camshafts. When equipped as a Flexible Fuel Vehicle, the 2008 Armada features a common fuel tank designed to run on varying blends of gasoline with ethanol or other fuel, resulting in a reduction of CO2 greenhouse gas and playing a key role in the long-term U.S. energy strategy.

Standard on every 2008 Armada is a reinforced electronically controlled 5-speed automatic transmission with tow/haul mode, which revises shift patterns accordingly. The transmission features a unique gear set for use in high torque situations, an advanced torque converter design for improved fuel economy and, for improved shift quality, an advanced powertrain management program. A 28-gallon fuel tank provides excellent driving range.
Tow Package-equipped Armadas (optional SE, standard LE) offer a maximum towing capacity of up to 9,100 pounds (when properly equipped). The Tow Package includes a lower rear axle ratio (to 3.357), heavy duty radiator and battery, 7-pin wiring harness plug, trailer brake pre-wiring, receiver hitch and rear suspension air leveling system.

4-wheel drive Armadas maximize traction on- or off-road with an advanced full-time automatic control system, which under normal driving conditions operates in two-wheel drive mode, but can instantly distribute torque to all four wheels whenever road conditions warrant (up to 50 percent can go to the front wheels on demand). A two-speed electronic transfer case allows the driver to select between auto, full-time 4-wheel drive and 4LO, which provides enhanced low speed driving force and hill descending ability.

Standard on Armada is a 4-wheel, 4-channel, 4-sensor Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA), engine speed-sensitive power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system.

New for 2008 are machine-finished aluminum-alloy 20x8-inch wheels with P275/60R20 Michelin tires on Armada LE models, while SE models continue with aluminum-alloy 18x8-inch wheels with P265/70R18 Conti-Track tires.

A Focus On Safety and Security
2008 Armadas offer an extensive list of safety features, including standard roof-mounted supplemental curtain air bags for side-impact and rollover head protection for outboard positions in all three rows. The Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) includes dual-stage front supplemental air bags with seat belt sensors and a front occupant classification sensor is standard on all Armadas and front seat-mounted side-impact supplemental air bags are standard on LE and optional on SE.

Also standard on Armada are front seat Active Head Restraints, 3-point front seat belts with dual pretensioners and load limiters, 3-point seat belts for all rear seat occupants (including center position), the LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) child seat anchor system and Zone Body construction with front and rear crushable zones.

For additional safety and security, Armada is equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Vehicle Security System (VSS).

Choices of Models and Equipment
For 2008, Armada is offered in SE and LE models, with 2-wheel or advanced 4-wheel drive systems.

All Armadas feature the 317-horsepower 5.6-liter Nissan Endurance V8, 5-speed automatic transmission, 4-wheel independent suspension and fold-flat 2nd and 3rd row seats, full-length overhead console, step rails and rear sonar sensors to aid in close parking situations.

Option packages for SE include the Driver Package, with Bose audio system, XM Satellite Radio (subscription required), RearView monitor, power tailgate, front fog lamps and front sonar system; auto-dimming rearview mirror with universal garage door opener and compass; Premium Package, which includes all content in the Driver Package and adds an Intelligent Key with twist start, heated Seton leather-appointed seats with driver memory function and 6-way power adjustable passenger seat; Tow Package; Sunroof Package; rear DVD Entertainment Package with 8-inch screen; and Captains Chairs Package, with 2nd row captains chairs and removable center console replacing the 2nd row split bench seat.

The Armada LE adds a higher level of luxury appointments, including the contents of the Driver, Premium and Tow Packages; a lockable glove compartment; special wood-tone trim; power folding mirrors with heat, power adjust, auto dim and integrated turn signal; metallic-finish grille; power liftgate; and new 20-inch wheel and tire package.

Armada LE packages include the Sunroof Package; Captains Chairs Package; DVD Entertainment Package; and Technology Package, which includes the Nissan Navigation system with a XM NavTraffic system with real-time traffic information (XM contract required), power folding 3rd row seat and Bluetooth® hands-free phone system.
Two new exterior colors are offered for 2008, Desert Stone (tan) and Timberline, adding to the full slate of Blizzard (white), Galaxy Black, Silver Lightning, Smoke (dark silver), Red Brawn and Majestic Blue. Sand and Graphite are the two interior colors available.

Chicago: Saturn Astra & Pontiac G8 to Debut in Chicago

Chicago: 2008 Hummer H2 Victory Red Edition

HUMMER announced this morning a new version of its H2 SUV called the Victory Red Limited Edition, which is marked by its bright "Victory Red" paint job that extends to body-color fender and rocker moldings. Available for the H2 and H2 SUT, the limited-run package also includes a low-profile, roof-mounted light bar, chrome bits dotting the exterior and 17-inch chrome wheels. We take umbrage with the decision to use carbon fiber appearance accents on the interior, but dig the rear-vision camera system that displays video from a camera out back on a 3.5-inch display that slides out the side of the rearview mirror. Other premium touches include a heated windshield wiper system and rear-seat DVD entertainment system with headrest-mounted screens and wireless headphones. All these premium bits add up to a premium price tag, with the SUV starting at $66,030 and the SUT at $65,575. That's a pretty big jump over the $54,255 base price of a standard H2 SUV, though even those can be optioned up with packages to hit $60k pretty easily. We'll likely see the "Victory Red" at the Chicago Auto Show, and it will be arriving in dealerships sometime in February.

PRESS RELEASE:

HUMMER H2 VICTORY RED LIMITED EDITION ARRIVES AT DEALERS IN FEBRUARY

DETROIT – HUMMER is expanding its product lineup with a new "Victory Red" limited-edition H2. This special edition is available in SUV and SUT versions, and maintains HUMMER's trademark bold design and unmatched off-road capability. The exclusive models arrive at dealerships in February with SUV pricing at $66,030 MSRP and SUT pricing at $65,575 MSRP.

"The Victory Red edition offers HUMMER enthusiasts a distinctive new choice and unique features," said Martin Walsh, HUMMER general manager. "The package brings exclusivity to the SUV and SUT marketplace, and rounds out the 2007 H2 lineup."

The 2007 limited edition includes all the standard features of the H2, along with a unique Victory Red exterior, rear-vision camera system and uplevel premium appearance package.

The package features body-color fender moldings and rocker moldings with an integrated assist step, and a lower-profile, roof-mounted light bar with integral lamps. Chrome hood handles, hood latches, hood louver, exterior side vents, rear D-rings and fuel filler door, and 17-inch flangeless chrome wheels complete the exterior. Inside, the limited edition has new carbon fiber appearance accents.

The rear-vision system features a 3.5-inch full-color display housed in the rearview mirror, which receives its picture from a universal rear-mounted camera. When the vehicle is shifted into Reverse, the video display automatically deploys from the side of the mirror, providing the driver an image of the area behind the vehicle both day and night. The display is in the driver's natural line of sight, and the slide-out display won't compromise a driver's traditional field of view or create distracting glare. The screen then retracts back into the mirror when the vehicle is shifted out of Reverse.

In addition, the special edition has a heated windshield wiper system with warm fluid that removes snow, ice and debris, and a rear-seat DVD system with dual headrest-mounted viewing screens and wireless headphones.

The limited edition also carries GM's five year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty and HUMMER's premium four year/50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Best Sellers of 2006

We love this list. It comes around once a year (check out the numbers from 2005 for comparison's sake) and offers the raw numbers that simply show what sold well in the U.S. that year. It's a list that seems to change little from year to year, but at the same time always surprises. Take last year's list, for example, which has been compiled by Forbes, the king of Top Ten lists on the web. As usual, the top two spots are occupied by the Ford F-Series (796,039) and Chevy Silverado (636,069). Those two powerhouse platforms, however, were far off the numbers they put up in 2005, and this year the race will be extremely tight with a brand new Silverado facing off against a seasoned F-150. The Toyota Camry is once again the best-selling car in the U.S. and managed to sell about 15,000 more units in 2006 than year prior, which gives a bit of credibility to the claim that cars are back. As usual, the Honda Accord (354,441) and Civic (316,638) occupy the middle ground, while the Nissan Altima (232,457) falls from 7th to 9th. It will likely hold there in 2007 or gain back lost ground if the new Altima finds favor with the public. Though Chevy always seems to have at least a couple models in the top ten, it still amazes us the brand moved that many Impalas (289,868) and Cobalts (211,449) in 2006. We expect to see the Malibu back on this list come 2008 after the new model has had its first full year of sales...

Chicago: Kia Rondo SX Concept

Kia will be using the 2007 Chicago Auto Show as the venue to debut its Rondo SX Concept. We don't have much information on the car, besides the fact that it's based on the Rondo and features a more aggressive front end with a big lower air intake and a revised rear with what we assume to be faux diffusers nestled between a pair of tailpipes. A glimpse of the driver side front wheel shows five-spoke alloy rims that are definitely not available on the current Rondo, as well. Kia says that the suspension will be tuned for performance and that there are other performance mods on the Rondo SX. The regular Rondo can be had with either a 162-hp 2.4L four-cylinder or a 182-hp 2.7L V6, so hopefully the Rondo SX will feature one of these engines pumping out more power than stock.

Honda to Debut Hybrid Concept in Geneva

Honda will debut a concept car at the Geneva Motor Show which will preview a production model coming out in 2008.

The new car will be Honda’s second dedicated hybrid model after the Insight, which was released back in 1999, according to UK’s Autocar magazine. It seems Honda is tired of giving Toyota the hybrid limelight and is stepping up its game in the mid-size vehicle sector. The new vehicle is expected to be similar in size to the current Civic Hybrid, but it’s unclear whether both will be sold side-by-side.

Recent reports have suggested Honda is keen to build a plug-in hybrid and wants to beat perennial competitor Toyota to the market. At the moment the biggest complaint is with battery technology, which simply isn’t light or efficient enough. Expect next generation plug-in hybrids to hit the streets around 2010.

Holden Epica to be Unveiled in Brisbane

Holden will unveil its new medium-sized car – the South Korean-built Epica – at the Brisbane International Motor Show on Friday, ahead of its showroom release in April.

Pricing will be announced at the show, however Holden sources this week confirmed that the sedan would range from $25,000AUD to $31,000AUD, making it a strong contender against the formidable Toyota Camry and other medium-car rivals – not least because it will offer six-cylinder-only power and a highly competitive level of standard equipment.

The latter will include four airbags, traction control, ABS brakes, air-conditioning, an MP3-compatible six-speaker CD stereo, front and rear power-operated windows and 16-inch alloy wheels (with a 15-inch steel spare)...

[Source: GoAuto]

Follow the jump to continue reading the story.

As GoAuto revealed as far back as December 2005, the Epica is an Australian-tuned version of the new-generation GM Daewoo Magnus/Leganza (codenamed V250), which subsequently made its world premiere as the Chevrolet Epica at the Salon International de l'Auto in Geneva last March.

Holden confirmed this week that the front-wheel drive car would be sold with both the 105kW/195Nm 2.0-litre and 115kW/237Nm 2.5-litre versions of the transverse-mounted inline six-cylinder engine.

Paired solely with a five-speed manual transmission, the 2.0-litre engine achieves fuel consumption of 8.2L/100km according to the ADR 81/01 benchmark, while the 2.5-litre version – which combines exclusively with a five-speed automatic – returns 9.3L/100km. Both versions also meet the Euro IV emissions standard.

Model designations on the Epica will emulate those used on the European-built Vectra it replaces. The standard equipment listed above will be offered on CDX model variants across both engines, while a top-spec CDXi grade will also be available with the 2.5.

Additional features on the CDXi will include side curtain airbags, climate-control air-conditioning, a trip computer, eight-speaker six-CD audio, leather-clad steering wheel/transmission lever, front foglights, a sports bodykit and 17-inch alloys. Leather trim (with two colour options) will also be optional.

With no CD model variant, Holden has left open the possibility of a cheaper variant down the track. This could include a model with either a four-cylinder petrol or turbo-diesel engine, both of which are available in overseas markets but still to be confirmed for Australia.

GM Holden chairman and managing director Denny Mooney told GoAuto last week that he expected Epica would produce some cannibalisation of sales from its all-important Australian-built VE Commodore, although he insisted that buyers would understand fundamental differences such as front-wheel drive versus RWD.

Holden claims the Epica, which is built at General Motors’ Bupyong plant in South Korea, was "extensively tuned" by its own engineers in Australia. It will be the fourth vehicle Holden now sources from GM Daewoo, joining the Barina and Viva small cars and the Captiva SUV. A compact SUV is due to be confirmed later this year.

Holden is also set to announce pricing and specifications for its circa-$55,000 Hummer H3 SUV at the Brisbane show. Watch out for full details next week.

Gaining increasing importance on the Australian industry calendar, the Brisbane show will host a number of new Australian vehicle debuts.

TCB's Car of the Week:3

It is Monday night. NFL football fans have their TV dinners on their laps while watching their team play. Amidst the air of excitement amongst us, it is time for TheCarBlogger to choose its Car of the Week for this week. This week, TheCarBlogger's Car of the Week award goes to the Mazda5.

The days of the Nissan Axxess and the Mitsubishi Space Wagon are long into the archive section. Since they have been discontinued, which is about 10 years or so, the "mini-MPV" segment was long forgotten. The hold was broken when Mazda entered the segment with the "5" last year.

Oil prices have risen in North America and the popularity of fuel-gushing sport-utility vehicles have been steadily decreasing. While Ford was awe-strucken with the sales result, import manufacturers have been busy releasing new subcompact cars and basically smaller, and more efficient variants of what was already out there.

The 5, called Premacy in its domestic market, was already flying off the lots in Japan. The 5 is a multi-activity crossover, deemed my Mazda. We, consumers, call it a "mini-minivan" which sounds more appropriate...

Follow the jump to continue reading the story.

The 5 is based on the popular 3 compact model. The 5 slots between the Mazda3 Sport and the discontinued MPV. It comes with dual sliding doors and even a storage space under each 2nd-row seat without sacrificing style, which will definitely attract the baby boomers.

The 5 is coupled with a 2.3L 157HP 4-cylinder engine which is also found in the Mazda3. The 5 is versatile, practical, stylish, and presents value. The 5's base price is $17,995, and all the goodies you need is standard.

This growing segment is starting to be noticed by other manufacturers and Kia has just released its Rondo mini-MPV with more manufacturers rumoured to follow the successful footsteps. Is there anything better than seating 6 people in comfort for under $20,000 without consuming more gas than a Toyota Camry? Glance at today's gas price at your local gas station and bingo.

Details on the Facelifted Saab 9-3

Saab is planning a facelift for its 9-3 sedan, which is due for launch midway through this year, ahead of a complete redesign in 2010. More details have been revealed about the car in the Swedish version of Auto Motor & Sport magazine, with the key information being sourced from industry insiders who got a glimpse of the new car at a private unveiling.

The car’s front end will resemble the lines of Saab’s Aero X concept, and will include a completely new grille and bonnet. The headlights will wrap around to the flanks of the vehicle, similar to that seen on BMW’s 5-series. The rear-end will remain relatively unchanged, bar some modifications to the taillights and LED highlights.

A new flagship turbo model with around 290hp and AWD will be introduced. The new drivetrain is expected to spur the development of a new “XC” 9-3 sport wagon as well, while a new Biopower ethanol version isn’t expected to arrive until the next-gen model.

The next couple of years will be very busy for Saab. The new 9-3 will spawn the XC crossover model due in 2008 and the company will also update the larger 9-7X SUV before the launch of the all-new 9-5 in 2009.

Nissan Altima Hybrid Pricing Released

The Altima Hybrid is a strange car, a very strange car indeed. Nissan signed a deal with Toyota back in 2002 to license its Hybrid Synergy Drive technology for use in the Altima Hybrid, but will be dropping the Toyota bits as soon as an in-house team can develop its own hybrid technology. Meanwhile, the Altima Hybrid will be sold with Toyota technology in only eight states, which include California and seven other northeastern states that have adopted California's strict emissions regulations. Nissan announced today that the car will carries a base price of $24,440.

Nissan announced today that it's MSRP will be $24,440. The Altima Hybrid meets the requirements for the Alternative Motor Vehicle Credit and therefore qualifies for a $2,350 tax credit. Nevertheless, the car will only be offered in these states, which is unfortunate for anyone seeking stylish, economical and reasonably priced green transportation. Based on the company's intentions and the limited availability issues, stats show that Nissan will lose money for every Altima Hybrid sold. Nonetheless, a reasonable start to Nissan's hybrid technology and vehicles.

PRESS RELEASE:

Nissan Announces Pricing on 2007 Altima Hybrid

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Jan. 30, 2007) – Nissan today announced a starting Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $24,400 for the 2007 Nissan Altima Hybrid, Nissan's first entry in the hybrid electric vehicle market.

The new hybrid sedan is on sale now at Nissan retailers in the eight states that have adopted California emissions regulations – California, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. The Altima Hybrid has been certified by the Internal Revenue Service as meeting the requirements for the Alternative Motor Vehicle Credit, thereby qualifying for a tax credit of $2,350.

Altima Hybrid's EPA fuel economy is estimated at 42 mpg City and 36 mpg Highway. It is rated as an Advanced Technology-Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV) and emits almost no evaporative emissions.

"The Altima Hybrid offers all the style, convenience, comfort, quality feel and performance technology features and highlights of the next-generation 2007 Altima sedan, while offering the added benefits of improved fuel economy and reduced emissions," said Bill Bosley, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division. "Combined with Altima's standard 20-gallon fuel tank, Altima Hybrid has a projected driving range of up to 700 miles between fill-ups. More importantly, it drives just like any other Nissan – with smooth acceleration, responsive handling and a seamless delivery of power under almost all driving conditions."

About the 2007 Altima Hybrid

The Altima Hybrid powertrain mates a refined version of Nissan's QR25 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and standard electronically controlled CVT with an advanced electric drive motor/generator that increases fuel economy while maintaining low tailpipe emissions.

The advanced energy drive system shares duties between the gasoline-powered 4-cylinder and the emissions-free electric motor – allowing the Altima Hybrid to run solely on electric power if appropriate, especially during stop-and-go driving. If extra performance is needed, the gasoline engine starts instantly and smoothly adds power as required. The Altima Hybrid has a hybrid system net power rating of 198 horsepower (148 kW). Acceleration from zero to 60 mph is estimated at about 0.5 seconds quicker than a standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder equipped Altima.

The Altima Hybrid utilizes regenerative braking technology to recharge the hybrid system's batteries. The Regenerative Cooperative Brake System calculates braking force generated by brake pedal operation and controls the regenerative brake force to convert kinetic energy into electric energy, optimizing energy regeneration.

In order to power the electric motor, a generator places resistance on the driveshaft during braking. The system converts this friction to usable energy that is stored in the system's 244.8V Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) battery for eventual use by the electric motor.

Helping provide smooth acceleration and maximize powertrain efficiency is the Altima Hybrid's hybrid system-specific eCVT, which works in conjunction with the Hybrid Vehicle-Electric Control Unit (HV-ECU) to determine which power source or combination of power sources will turn the wheels.

Altima Hybrid's electric motor produces high torque at low rpm, allowing it to utilize its Electric Vehicle (EV) mode to power the car from a standing idle and through initial acceleration without the assistance of the gasoline engine. Standing-start acceleration is typically a gasoline-only powered vehicle's least fuel-efficient stage and Altima Hybrid offers much of its fuel-efficiency benefits here.

Altima Hybrid's all-electric mode, called Electric Vehicle (EV) mode, occurs in the initial acceleration phase. After the electric motor provides initial acceleration, the gasoline engine quietly starts and assumes the load of powering the vehicle.

The gasoline engine works independently through cruising speeds until the vehicle reaches speeds at which fuel efficiency declines. When loads require, the electric motor starts again and aids the gasoline engine in powering the Altima Hybrid. This allows the gasoline engine to remain in its ideal rpm range while the axle rpm simultaneously increases due to the extra power being contributed by the electric motor.

A digital display on the speedometer indicates when the Altima Hybrid is running solely on electric power. The Altima Hybrid's available DVD navigation system also features a real-time display showing how the hybrid system directs the flow of energy.

Serving as the foundation for all fourth generation 2007 Altimas – including Hybrid – is Nissan's all-new "D" platform with improved body rigidity and a redesigned suspension. The new platform includes a subframe-mounted front suspension with new geometry and shock absorbers with rebound springs. The half-shafts now have equal angles and are more parallel to the ground – virtually eliminating traditional front-wheel drive torque steer.

Altima's new body design is a continuation of its distinctive, iconic, sporty design. The exterior features an aggressive stance, a strong wedge character line and signature Altima-style taillights. Inside, the new Altima utilizes refined workmanship, high-quality materials and a long list of available amenities. The Altima Hybrid shares exterior and interior designs with the other 2007 Altima models – with the exception of unique Hybrid badging, roof-mounted antenna and hybrid power/charge display in the driver information display.

The Altima Hybrid also joins other Altima models with an impressive list of available convenience features, including leather-appointed seating, Bluetooth hands-free phone system, RearView Monitor, satellite radio and Nissan's Advanced Navigation System with real-time Energy Flow Display.

The new Altima is assembled at the Nissan North America Manufacturing Smyrna, Tennessee plant.
