Milestone: Toyota reaches 1 million hybrid sales

Toyota announced today that they have surpassed the one-million mark in sales of their hybrid vehicles. Since 1997, Toyota pioneered the gasoline-powered hybrid-electric technology and now, it is common to see hybrid offerings from many different automakers.

Of the 1.047 million units sold around the world, 345,000 were sold in Japan and 702,000 throughout the rest of the world. Of the million units, the Prius accounted for 757,600 units. As Toyota aims to improve their hybrid systems, so is the global perception on rising fuel prices and climate changes. Toyota claims all of their vehicles will be hybrids by 2020.
