Frankfurt Preview: Hyundai ix-Metro Concept & i10 Electric

Hyundai ix-Metro ConceptHyundai is set to present the world debut of two green vehicles at the Frankfurt Motor Show. One, the ix-Metro will be present in concept form, the other the i10 Electric will be presented in production form.

The ix-Metro, a hybrid electric CUV concept, is aimed at the European sub-B segment and according to Hyundai will emit less than 80g/km of CO2. The vehicle is powered by an inline 1.3 liter, three cylinder engine featuring turbocharging and a six speed dual clutch transmission. The concept is designed by Global Design Team located in Korea.

The other vehicle, the i10 Electric will be displayed in production form with sales expected to beginning in early 2010 in the Korean market. Its powered by a 49 kW motor and a 16 kWh battery. It features a range of 99 miles and a freeway friendly top speed of 81 mph.


The i10 Electric will see limited series production in early 2010 with the first sales expected to go to government ministries, state corporations, and utility companies. Full retail sales are expected, but a date has yet to be announced.

Hyundai will also display several other advanced technology vehicles at the show including the Elantra LPI Hybrid, and the Blue Will Plug-In Hybrid previously displayed at the Seoul Motor Show.

Hyundai appears to show immediate concern with bringing several advanced technology vehicles to market as soon as possible and their unveiling at recent auto shows distinguishes them as a stand out in the advanced vehicle category.
