UPDATE: Kia releases Soul powertrain details and a new image (more images)

Kia Soul
Kia announced today that the Soul will be available in three powertrains: two gasolines and one turbodiesel. The automaker also released a new photo of the compact car. The Soul's launch date has been set to April 2009.

The Soul will be available with a 124 horsepower 1.6L petrol, a more powerful 2.0L petrol, or a 128 horsepower 1.6L diesel with variable geometry turbocharger. They can be mated to either a manual transmission or automatic transmission. This is similar to the engine offerings of the Forte. Kia did not specify which ones were going to arrive in North America. The Soul is underpinned by a modified Rio platform.

The Soul will make its official debut at the Paris International Motor Show this October.

UPDATE: Kia will reveal all the official information and images of the Soul on July 16th. Stay tuned. New images are added after the jump.
