India: Hyundai to launch LPG variants of Santro, Accent

Hyundai Motor India spoke with Business Line regarding its plans to launch LPG (liquified petroleum) variants of the Santro and Accent compacts in the future. Managing Director of Hyundai Motor India Ltd., H S Lheem, stated that they are going to be launched in October. The automaker has already released CNG (clean natural gas) variants of the two cars.

The CNG and LPG kits source directly from two Korean companies, CEV and Motonic, that also supply LPG kits for all of South Korea's taxis. "Since they use highly developed technology in LPG and CNG kits, we have invited them to set up plants in India," Lheem said. Motonic plans to build a plant near Sriperumbudur, and CEV is also planning to build a manufacturing facility in Delhi.

Hyundai plans to launch a new series of engines named Kappa next week, mainly for the i10. The automaker is also reconsidering its plan to release the i30 hatchback as a replacement of the Elantra. The Santa Fe will also be launched in India early 2009.
