More shots of the 2009 Kia Mohave (Borrego in N/A)

During the hiatus, many candid photos of Kia's latest model in the line-up were posted on the net. The Mohave, Borrego in the US, is the automaker's first full-size SUV and sits on a body-on-frame chassis. Although the Mohave does not have any specific competitors to rival in its home market, the V8-packing SUV will face such competitors as the Ford Explorer and the Nissan Pathfinder when it goes on sale in the US in 2008. The North American market Mohave will be called the Borrego, somehow meaning "sheep" in Spanish which might raise a few eyebrows in the prominent Hispanic community.

Here, we have a couple of amateur shots of the Mohave in white. Unlike the versions we get, the Korean variants will be free of Kia badges. However, it will have its own "Mohave" badges in an attempt to stray away from the value perception the automaker carries with. The Mohave in this series of photos shows that white really blends well with the unique side moldings. The rear photo (after the jump) shows some nice looking LED taillamps also. The Mohave is set to go on sale in South Korea early next year. The Borrego will arrive in the U.S. and Canada in June 2008.

TheCarBlogger Returns & Video: Hyundai Genesis

Exams are over and as I take a sigh of relief, I bring you a little promotional video of the Hyundai Genesis. Well, it's not really a promotional video. Moreso, it's the introduction video of the Genesis's official website. There is nothing new rather than a few new images of the car in its glory. Hyundai recently released two new promotional videos that actually show the car moving, but they have not been formatted for YouTube just yet. Click the link to visit the website where you can see the videos for yourself.

OFFICIAL: 2009 Hyundai Genesis (KDM)

Hyundai has officially unveiled the Genesis in its home-market today at a private unveiling in South Korea. The "Showcase" event was exclusive to invited members only including reporters, analysts, high-class doctors and lawyers at the Hyundai-Kia Namyang R&D Center. The event also provided the participants to compare the Genesis to mainstream Mercedes-Benz and BMW models.

The Genesis is packed with premium features including a standard 6-speed AT, also found in the Veracruz. The Korean model will be available with a 3.3L V6 producing 265 horsepower, and a 3.8L V6 producing 305 horsepower. The North American models will receive the 3.8L and a 4.6L Tau V8 that produces a staggering 380 horsepower. This means the Genesis is neck-in-neck with the Lexus LS460 and 18 more horsepower than the Pontiac G8 GT. The Genesis is also featured with Smart Cruise Control (SCC), Adaptive Headlamps, Driver Information System, and a Harman/Becker Lexicon Audio System. Lexicons are currently only found in the Rolls-Royce Phantom. Other goodies include push-start button and electronic stability control.

As the nomenclature describes, the Genesis is only the brand's beginning of a fresh start and the perception-changer for consumers throughout the world. The Korean Genesis will be Hyundai badge-free, with only emblems touting 'Genesis' scattered throughout the exterior and interior of the vehicle. The North American models will still receive the Hyundai badges.

TheCarBlogger has gone through an excruciatingly long hiatus, disappointing our regular readers with no new posts throughout the past two weeks. Well, until December 24th, it will stay that way unfortunately. As some of you might know, I am a grade 8 student that faces loads of homeworks, assignments and things most of you have already encountered. As Christmas nears, it is time for our annual Christmas Exams. Throughout the hiatus, I could not devote myself into blogging because of my studies. The exam will commence on December 12th, and will end on December 21st. Starting from December 24th, it will be my Christmas break. In other words, expect loads of posts each day. I will end off the note with my sincere apologies to our faithful readers and I dearly wish that faith will hold on.

Spied: More Undisguised Shots of the Hyundai Genesis Pt.IV

How about starting the morning with a batch of new images of the undisguised prototypes of the Hyundai Genesis. These images, however, seem to be taken from the same photographer as the ones of Pt.III of the undisguised Genesis spyshots. We have a full frontal shot as well as a full side shot. The full frontal shot shows the prominent Hyundai logo, which creates enough shivers in the automotive industry. For the curious folks who have no idea what's covering the logo, it is the sensor for the adaptive cruise control available on the Genesis.

There is not much else to report on the Genesis as of now, since we have posted umpteen articles regarding the car before this. We direct you to the jump where the frontal shot is posted.

Spied: More Undisguised Shots of the Hyundai Genesis Pt.III

Today's posts were either of Hyundai and Kia receiving awards or images of undisguised prototypes of the Hyundai Genesis. Before wrapping up for the day, we discovered another batch of images of an undisguised Hyundai Genesis today. These images are of a silver model and give us a better look at the front-3/4 view of the car. We can proudly say a Hyundai at an angle looks so much better, with proof evident in our last post of the Genesis.

The first shot presents the front fascia of the Genesis on a whole new level and we have grown...fond of the look. The LS460 is still visible, however these shots give off a sleeker look than the previous shots. The second shot, available for your viewing after the jump, compares the front of the current Hyundai Equus and the upcoming Genesis. In the South Korean market, the Genesis is expected to replace the aging Equus.

More and more shots pop up on the web and strangely, our impression of the highly-anticipated vehicle has definitely turned for the positive. There are and will still be a lot of naysayers, those who especially prioritize style first. However, the consumer market indicates the vast majority looks everywhere else for buying new cars and the Genesis will fare very well in that criteria. Stay tuned for more images of undisguised Genesis's throughout the coming days.

2 Hyundais and 1 Kia receive 2008 Autobytel MyRide.com Editor's Choice Awards

Hyundai and Kia's award shelves might need some reorganizing with the recent ambush of awards from different organizations and publications. The editors of MyRide.com, affiliated with Autobytel, announced their Editor's Choice Award for 2008. While the Car of the Year, Truck of the Year, Utility of the Year, and Hybrid of the Year were all swept up by American automakers (which raised more than a few eyebrows), Hyundai and Kia were also in line to receive some as well.

The Hyundai Santa Fe went home with a "Best Family Car" award while the Hyundai Veracruz was awarded "Best Mid-Size SUV" title. The Kia Rondo received two awards: "Best Kept Secret for 2008" and "Best New Wagon". Each MyRide.com editor tested and selected the best car for each category and simply the majority of each segment took home the award.

PRESS RELEASE: Autobytel Announces 2008 MyRide.com Editors’ Choice Awards

Cadillac CTS Named Car of the Year, Ford Super Duty Named Truck of the Year, 2008 Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon Tie for Hybrid of the Year

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)
--The automotive editors and analysts of MyRide.com, Autobytel Inc.’s (NASDAQ:ABTL) brand new vertical search experience for car lovers, buyers and researchers, today announced results for the fifth annual Editors’ Choice Awards, a ranking of the best new 2008 vehicles on the market.

The MyRide.com Editor’s Choice Awards name the editors’ top choices for major vehicle categories as well as providing their top recommendations for buyers with specific priorities – including fuel-efficiency, family/teen driving, affordability and just plain fun. In keeping with the buyer-focused, “real world” spirit of the Awards, consideration was limited to vehicles with base prices lower than $75,000 except in the Dream Car” category.

“As in past years, certain vehicles stand out from the pack, particularly in terms of comfort, design, quality, performance, or overall value. This year, domestic automakers are on top, sweeping most of the major categories in MyRide.com’s 2008 Editors’ Choice Awards,” said MyRide.com Chief Automotive Analyst Brian Chee. “Clearly, the time and energy the winning automakers have invested in making better quality cars is starting to pay off for them.”

And the Winners Are …

The following MyRide.com Editors’ Choice Awards will be presented to winning automakers at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show and the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

2008 Car of the Year and Best New Entry Luxury Car Under $40,000 – Cadillac CTS – The second-generation, all-new-for-2008 CTS, with edgy style to burn, a world-class interior, and extraordinary performance takes Cadillac’s entry-luxury model to a whole new level of refinement and is living testament to how serious GM has become about new products. As one of the best-handling and performing Cadillac’s ever, the super-evolved CTS finally proves that it can hold its own against import rivals like BMW, Lexus, Audi and Mercedes. The most affordable vehicle in the Caddy line-up just happens to be the best one to buy.

2008 Truck of the Year and Best New Pickup — Ford Super Duty – In the brutally tough ‘heavies’ category, Ford’s redesigned Super Duty managed to best the always-worthy choices from Dodge, GM and Nissan, all thanks to its incredible towing and hauling capabilities, mind-bending menu of body styles, and trim levels and powertrain options. This truck performs so competently it can make popular light-duty pickups seem like golf carts. F-Series has been the best-selling vehicle in America for a quarter century and the well-engineered new Super Duty, with its first significant overhaul since 1999, will go a long way in helping Ford retain its truck title.

2008 Utility Vehicle of the Year and Best New Luxury Utility Vehicle Under $75,000 — Buick Enclave — Buick has aspired to be a truly premium automaker for years and with the Enclave it has finally, and convincingly, achieved that elusive goal. In a veritable sea of new crossovers, Enclave’s handsome looks in and out, near-silent ride, plentiful cargo capacity, and superb comfort, have given its luxe import competitors — Acura, BMW, Lexus and Mercedes — a Buick to actually worry about. Part practical family hauler and part true luxury SUV, all those consumers shopping Asian and European crossovers now have a compelling reason to think, yes, Buick.

2008 Hybrid of the Year — Chevy Tahoe Hybrid/GMC Yukon Hybrid – No, not that popular P-word, but a pair of full-sized SUVs — a category which GM’s new offerings may just help save from the vehicular graveyard. When a hybrid is tough enough for off-roading, seats eight, is capable of towing at least 6,000 pounds, offers four-wheel-drive, a low-range transfer case, and also achieves an estimated 22-mpg, awards are in order. The two-mode system, deftly switching between all-electric propulsion around town to the gas engine for high speeds and towing (and myriad complex combinations in between), represents a significant hybrid technology breakthrough, and one that uniquely delivers the best fuel economy across a wide range of driving situations. Many people simply can’t drive a compact hybrid, and they need the utility, power and roominess of their once-beloved large SUV. For cutting-edge technology, and for offerings that should help encourage wider hybrid adoption, Tahoe/Yukon take the prize.

Best Kept Secret for 2008 and Best New Wagon — Kia Rondo – Call it what you will, mini-minivan or crossover sport wagon, Kia’s practical little Rondo has unjustly flown under too many people’s radar. With flexible seven-passenger seating, a nice long warranty, four- or six-cylinder powertrain options, and a base price under twenty grand, Rondo uniquely delivers up the versatility and passenger-toting a family seeks in a minivan, but in a smaller, nimbler, more affordable package. Compact minivans, big hits all across Asia and Europe, are rare on these shores. Rondo, with its compelling combination of value and utility, should be equally celebrated on this side of the pond.

Best Car for Teen Drivers – Honda Civic – A perennial award winner, Honda continues to dominate this category. This is the second year in a row the Civic has been named Best Car for Teen Drivers. Known for its reliability, but still fun to drive and stylish, this car pleases both teens and their parents.

Winners in additional categories

Best New Minivan – Chrysler Town & Country / Dodge Grand Caravan

Best New Small Car – Volvo C30

Best New Midsize Car – Chevrolet Malibu

Best New Large Car – Ford Taurus / Mercury Sable

Best Family Car – Hyundai Santa Fe

Best New Luxury Car Under $75,000 – BMW 5 Series

Best New Convertible Under $75,000 – Audi TT Roadster

Best New Sports Car Under $75,000 – Audi S5

Best New Small SUV – Saturn Vue

Best New Midsize SUV – Hyundai Veracruz

Best New Large SUV – Mazda CX-9

Best Non-Hybrid for the Environment – Honda Civic GX

Most Fun New Car for 2008 – Infiniti G37

Best New Dream Car Over $75,000 – Aston Martin V-8 Vantage Roadster

Methodology

Each MyRide.com editor voted for the vehicle they’d most recommend to buyers in each Award category, with winners determined by a simple majority. Vehicles that were not driven by at least one staff member prior to final voting on November 9, 2007 were disqualified, as were those that did not go on sale during the 2007 calendar year. Contenders for the Best Non-Hybrid for the Environment, Best Family Car, and Best Car for Teen Drivers awards were not limited by sales dates or model year.

Hyundai Azera and Santa Fe awarded Best-in-Class 2007 Total Value Awards

Hyundai's Azera and the Santa Fe recently received Strategic Vision's Best-in-Class Total Value Awards for 2007. This award is based on the level of owner satisfaction and the Azera and Santa Fe beat out its competitors by a large margin. The Azera was the top of the large-car segment for the second year in a row, beating out the Chevrolet Impala, Dodge Charger and the Ford Five Hundred. The Santa Fe placed first in the small-SUV category, beating the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4.

2008 Kia Sedona awarded "Top Safety Pick" by IIHS

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) announced their "Top Safety Picks" for 2008 recently. Only 34 cars received the prestigious title and once again, the Kia Sedona was one of the bunch. The Sedona, which already earned the same award for 2007 and a 5-star rating by NHTSA, excelled the frontal, side, and rear impact tests. The Sedona is also equipped with a standard electronic stability control, a requirement for the award.

The Sedona offers an impressive array of safety features such as six standard airbags, electronic stability control, ABS with electronic brake force distribution, traction control system with brake assist, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The Sedona, along with its mechanical twin Hyundai Entourage, are the only minivans on the market that have received the award. Spied: More Undisguised Shots of the Hyundai Genesis Pt.II

Since there are so many images of undisguised prototypes of the Hyundai Genesis, we decided to make a series out of each batch of images we find or receive. We expect more to pop up in the next few weeks as it seems Hyundai decided to unravel all the camo off of the prototypes. The latest images give us a better impression of the Genesis. The wheels, which are new to our eyes, resemble greatly to the ones on the Concept. At least we know Hyundai decided to keep one design element of the Genesis on. We don't know if it is the angle, colour or those attractive 18-inch alloys. But, it looks loads better than before and frankly, it is starting to grow on us.

There is one more image after the jump which gives us a closer look at those intricate wheels. We suspect that after the missing center cap is tacked on, it will result even better. Stay tuned for more spy shots in the coming days by checking with us often.

Spied: More Undisguised Shots of the Hyundai Genesis

The past week was worth remembering with the first spy shots of an undisguised prototype of the Hyundai Genesis (BH). The press did not halt there though. Over the weekend, clearer shots of an undisguised grey Hyundai Genesis were posted on the web. These latest images give us a better look at the controversial rear-end of the anticipated car. It also leaves us with a better impression. Now, you might have been stumped over the never-before-seen grille in the front shot (posted after the jump). Apparently, some trims of the domestic-market Genesis will receive a Mercedes-esque grille alongside the plain-Jane Lexus grille.

With all these undisguised prototypes of the Genesis roaming around 24/7 (a marketing stunt, perhaps?), we'll be here everytime new shots of these sneaky prototypes are posted on the web. We direct you to the RSS-feed scroller that is available for your convenience if time is something comparable to a gold mine of full of treasure and undisguised photos of the 2009 Chevy Camaro.

Spied: Hyundai Genesis (BH) Undisguised!

This is the day we and thousands of car enthusiasts from around the world have been waiting for. Blame Hyundai for the massive hype as the first prototypes of the Genesis (BH) have been running around since 2005. During the development, the Genesis has gone through one major facelift to keep up to date. These shots, of two different prototypes all appeared on the same day meaning Hyundai intentionally rolled out two undisguised prototypes of the new luxury sedan out onto public roads.

First impression: bland. These shots indicate Hyundai took a major dive from the impressive design of the Concept to cater the tastes of the Korean market. The whole front fascia is different from the sleek iteration found on the Concept that debuted last April at the New York Auto Show. There is a strong scent of the Lexus LS460. Examining the rear fascia, there is a very strong scent of the BMW 5-Series with the flowing-up LED taillights resembling the LS460 as well. Overall, we're disappointed with these latest images and we'll hold our judgments from there until we see some quality studio shots.

If the exterior doesn't work, which is a BIG minus for us folks in North America, the interior, powertrain, and most importantly, the pricing should be impressive enough to get the Genesis onto many car shopping lists. We've already seen that the interior will turn out very nicely with an iDrive-esque user interface tacked on there. The engine options should turn out impressive as well with a standard 3.8L V6 280-300hp and an optional 4.6L V8 with horsepower ranging from 360 to 380. The pricing of the Genesis will start a cut below the $30K-mark and will top out in the low $40s.

The domestic-market Genesis will make its official debut on January 9th, 2008. The North American Genesis will first appear at the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit on January 13th. We look forward to those studio shots. For now, we direct you to the jump where more low-res images of the undisguised prototypes are posted.

Minor changes are made to the exterior including new wheels and a L-Finesse front fascia.

LA Auto Show 2007: Hyundai Concept Genesis Coupe

Hyundai officially unveiled the highly-anticipated Concept Genesis Coupe at the Loss Angeles Auto Show today. It previews an all-new 2+2 RWD coupe arriving in dealerships in spring of 2009. Notice we did not mention "Tiburon". Hyundai confirmed in their press conference that there will be a separate successor to the Tiburon, and it will be FWD. The production Genesis Coupe will be available in either a 2.0L turbo-4 or a 3.8L V6 that produces well over 300 horsepower. The powerplant is sourced from the upcoming Genesis, which will be available with a 4.6L V8 alongside the V6.

“Concept Genesis Coupe is the most thrilling, most emotional Hyundai yet,” said John Krafcik, vice president, product development and strategic planning, Hyundai Motor America. “When it hits the market in early 2009, we aim to deliver a driving experience that challenges cars like Infiniti G37, at prices more like Mitsubishi Eclipse.” Hyundai also mentioned during their press conference that the benchmark of the Genesis Coupe was the BMW E46 M3. Albeit the E46 has been replaced by the E92 M3, it is still an impressive benchmark for a sub $30-k car. By early 2009, Chevrolet will release the Camaro and Toyota is also expected to roll out a RWD coupe (AE86 successor).

The Concept Genesis Coupe was fitted with 20" wheels, but we expect the production version to be equipped with 19"s by the looks of the very revealing spy shots we posted recently. During the press conference, Hyundai also confirmed the availability of Brembo brakes and Limited Slip Differential on the production version. The production version will also be available with attractive features such a navigation system and push-start button. Due to go on sale in early 2009, the Genesis Coupe is expected to be priced a tad under $20,000 for the turbo-4 and $25,000 for the V6 model. The production-version will make its official debut at the 2008 New York International Auto Show in late March.

PRESS RELEASE: HYUNDAI UNVEILS REAR-WHEEL DRIVE CONCEPT GENESIS COUPE

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 14, 2007 – Hyundai unveiled its highly anticipated Concept Genesis Coupe during a press conference at the Los Angeles International Auto Show today. The concept car heralds the introduction of an all-new, rear-wheel drive 2 + 2 sports coupe scheduled to join the Hyundai lineup in the spring of 2009. Following the introduction earlier this year of the Concept Genesis sedan, Concept Genesis Coupe signals Hyundai's second step in broadening its appeal to driving enthusiasts.

The Sonic Orange concept is complemented by a Ballistic Black carbon fiber hood, roof and ground effects for reduced weight. Strong hints of the production version are highlighted in its "Z" bodylines and powerful curves. When the production sports coupe arrives, it likely will be the most affordable 300+ horsepower car on the market, and the most dynamic performance car yet from Hyundai.

"Concept Genesis Coupe is the most thrilling, most emotional Hyundai yet," said John Krafcik, vice president, product development and strategic planning, Hyundai Motor America. "When it hits the market in early 2009, we aim to deliver a driving experience that challenges cars like Infiniti G37, at prices more like Mitsubishi Eclipse."

DESIGN PROCESS

"The mission for Concept Genesis Coupe was to create a pure performance car with a design that would capture the imagination of hardcore automotive enthusiasts," said Joel Piaskowski, chief designer at the Hyundai Design Center in Irvine, Calif. "With its aggressive look from just about any angle, I think we have been able to do that."
The powerful curves, surface detail and "Z" bodyside lines come straight from the same underlying inspiration that guided two earlier, well-received concepts: the HCD9 Talus and the HCD8 sports tourer. The undulating beltline borrowed from the Talus adds intrigue while enhancing outward visibility for both the driver and rear passengers. The HCD8 sports tourer's sensual body forms influenced the overall design theme while also providing direction for the concept's assertive headlight and taillight designs.

The look of Concept Genesis Coupe was in part inspired by LeMan's race cars, drifters and by Jada Toys Dub City™ die cast vehicles. The front and rear stance of the Concept Genesis Coupe can be described as sinister.
"Beauty and danger co-exist in the design of the Concept Genesis Coupe," said Eric Stoddard, senior creative designer. "When viewed from a distance, the car is beautiful to look at. But up close it can appear a bit menacing and even a little intimidating."

The concept's rocker panels are drawn close to the ground making the bodysides extra thick and the daylight opening extremely thin, allowing the wheels to be slammed up into bulging fenders. To complete the aggressive sports car look, the depth between the fenders and the greenhouse has been maximized.

Three large heat extractors sculpted into the hood are designed to cool just about any powerful engine. When the concept becomes reality, three large openings in the front fascia will allow for better engine breathing. The dual exhaust tips integrated into the rear fascia repeat the design theme of the front cooling ducts and are surrounded by a large carbon fiber air diffuser.

An arching roofline and tapering greenhouse highlight the exterior profile and emphasize the car's broad shoulders and wide stance. Concept Genesis Coupe rides on 20-inch polished aluminum deep-dish wheels with Hankook 255/35 ZR front tires and 275/35 ZR rear tires.

Following the heels of the recent awarding of the "Best Crossover" title by Kiplinger's Personal Finance, the Hyundai Veracruz was awarded "Best Value SUV" by the Northwest Automotive Press Association (NWAPA) today. The Veracruz and 27 other sport-utility vehicles were tested at the 14th annual Northwest Sport Utility Vehicle of the Year Competition, held at the Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon.

The SE model of the Veracruz, the mid-level trim, was tested for the following criterias: pavement testing, off-road testing, and performance testing. The as-tested price of the Veracruz SE was a mere $31,210 which was a plus for the 26 judges of the competition. The long list of standard features and the numerous safety accommodations impressed the panel. LOS ANGELES, Calif., 11/13/2007 The Northwest Automotive Press Association (NWAPA) named Hyundai Veracruz the “Best Value SUV” of the 2007 14th annual Northwest Sport Utility Vehicle of the Year Competition at the Los Angeles International Auto Show today. The two-day test was held at Portland International Raceway. Twenty-six members of the NWAPA put 28 vehicles through the series of tests October 3-5 in Portland, Oregon. The tests included three main elements: pavement testing, which included a slalom, curve handling, and emergency braking maneuvers; off-road testing, which included hill-climbing and descent abilities, in addition to ride comfort and low-range handling; and testing of the performance, handling and braking of each competing SUV. The overall value for money, packaging and versatility were evaluated through a comprehensive scoring procedure.

The list of SUVs was diverse and ranged in price from under $25,000 to well over $45,000. The Hyundai Veracruz SE with a 3.8-liter V6 engine, equipped with Hyundai’s first 6-speed Shiftronic automatic transmission performed exceeding well, both on-road and off-road. This combination of performance and value put the Hyundai Veracruz at the top of the list as the Best SUV Overall Value for 2007, beating competitors including the Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-7, Nissan Xterra and the Toyota FJ Cruiser.

The winners were announced today at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Kia cee'd: Best seller in Finland & Czech Republic

The popularity of Kia only increases these days and there is further proof of that with the high sales numbers of the automaker's Europe-only cee'd C-segment hatchback. The cee'd was the best-selling import (non-Skoda) car in the Czech Republic for October and was also the best-selling car in its class in Finland for the month of October.

The cee'd was the top-selling imported C-segment car in the Czech Republic for the second time, having achieved the same in April. The brand managed to garner a 3.47% market share in the country, as Kia's total sales for October jumped 63%. Over a span of 10 months, Kia sales have increased 67% and slotted in the Top 10 Brands rank knocking out Fiat in the process.

In Finland, the cee'd managed to gain enough sales last month to claim the No.1 position in its class. The cee'd beat the Volkswagen Golf, Skoda Octavia, Toyota Auris and the Ford Focus. The cee'd captured a staggering 14.7% market share in the demanding C-segment category. Kia's overall market share in the country leaped 50% to an impressive 7.2%.

The cee'd has a 5-star EuroNCAP rating and since its market launch in December of 2006, the automaker has received over 100,000 orders for the car. The cee'd family- the conventional five-door hatch, the five-door estate, and the three-door pro_cee'd- is built at Kia's first European plant in Zilina, Slovakia. The €1 billion facility also assembles the 2008 Sportage compact sport-utility vehicle. All cee'd's and Sportages sold in Europe come with Kia's 7-year/150,000km warranty.

Kia Kee Concept damaged during trans-atlantic voyage to US

Kia's shining star at next week's Los Angeles Auto Show was going to be the Kee Concept. The Peter Schreyer-designed coupe concept was scheduled to be the highlight of the automaker's presence at the show. However during a trans-atlantic voyage from Europe en route to the US, the Kee broke free of its cargo restraints inside the car transporter and heavily damaged the front-end of the vehicle.

"We had to send the car back to Italy to get repaired and there is no way it’s going to make it back to the States in time for the LA show," stated Kia spokesman Alex Fedorak. The 2+2 coupe was proclaimed to be the "new face" of Kia and the car was scheduled to stop by at Kia's dealer meeting in Las Vegas before prepping for the show. The Kee Concept first debuted at the Frankfurt Auto Show, held last September.

Hyundai Veracruz named "Best Crossover" by Kiplinger

Featured in the November issue of their monthly magazines, Kiplinger's Personal Finance published its annual "Best List" of the year, with awards going to mutual funds, credit cards, consumer deals and of course, cars. For the "Best Crossover" segment, the editors of Kiplinger tested more than a dozen new crossovers on the market. The honours went to the 2007 Hyundai Veracruz.

The Veracruz packs a 3.8L 260 horsepower V6 and is equipped with standard amenities like Electronic Stability Control. The fully-loaded 2007 Veracruz stickered $34,995 which is sub-par to the base prices of many of the Veracruz's competitors.

EXCLUSIVE: Hyundai BK 100% Undisguised!

Our jaws were literally dropped when we received these exclusive images via a reader "ShunK" in what seems to be web cam images of the new Hyundai Tiburon (BK). This is a surprise to us because we were more so expecting a concept version with the moniker "Genesis Coupe" for debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The BK, here undisguised completely, is placed beside a Ford Mustang GT and we presume this was the benchmark Hyundai has taken with the new Tiburon.

The new Tiburon will be available with a standard 2.0L horizontally-placed 4-cylinder turbo engine that produces 215 horsepower. The upper-end models will receive a 3.8L V6 300 horsepower engine. There is a strong possibility that the North American models will be available with a 4.6L V8 with horsepowers in excess of 350. The Genesis Coupe, the precursor to the production Tiburon seen here, will debut at the LA Auto Show this month. However, there is no need for the added suspense with these latest images.

Update: These images were taken by a digital camera during a consumer's clinic for the BK that was held in the US sometime in June. This is the reason why we see the Mustang placed beside the BK. In one of the images Autoblog received, a Mitsubishi Eclipse and a Honda Civic Coupe Si is also seen. If any issues arise with these images, please contact me at the Tip section located top right-hand corner of the site.

Spied: 2009 Hyundai Genesis

Aren't you just sick and tired of seeing the same camo-clad prototypes of the upcoming luxury sedan from Hyundai over and over? Hyundai just doesn't seem to be satisfied of the product, ever since the first prototypes bloomed in 2005. The series of spy shots here shows us a better glimpse of the rich interior and for the first time, we can see a bit more of the front grille of the exterior. Past the polished Hyundai logo lies a game-changer for the automaker.

Under the hood, the Genesis is expected to be available in two powertrain configurations: a 3.8L V6 powering in the 280-300 horsepower range, and the highly anticipated 4.6L Tau V8 that some reports are indicating horsepower levels in the 360-380 range. The V8 will most likely not be available in its domestic market.

With these new images, the only new information we've garnered is the date of the first official unveiling of the car. The Korean-market Genesis will be unveiled in Seoul on January 9th of 2008. The North American Genesis will make its public debut at next year's Detroit Auto Show.

Kia: Next-Generation Sorento CUV to be produced in America

As Hyundai and Kia are rapidly permeating throughout American grounds, it became more evident with an announcement made by Kia on Tuesday during an annual dealers' meeting in Las Vegas, Nevada. Kia will commence production of the next-generation Sorento sport-utility at its West Point, Georgia plant when it opens in 2009. The 2010 Sorento will share platforms with the Hyundai Santa Fe, meaning it will be a car-based crossover instead of the current body-on-frame underpinning.

The powertrains for the 2010 Kia Sorento will be manufactured at Hyundai's plant in Montgomery, Alabama. The Sorento will be the only model in production when the plant opens for the first time. Since Kia expects an annual production capacity of around 300,000, the light of a second model manufactured in the plant comes up. Alex Fedorak, Kia spokesman, stated that the second model will not be added until the plant's break-in process which will occur after the opening of the facility.

OFFICIAL: 2009 Kia Borrego

Kia quietly unleashed the first official press release and the first official image of the automaker's first mid-size body-on-frame SUV. Due to be unveiled at the upcoming Detroit Autoshow in January, the "Borrego" is Kia's first automobile to be packed with an available V8. Code-named the "HM" during its testing phases, many had speculated the moniker to be "Mesa" in relation to the Borrego's preview concept. The production version managed to retain all the good cues like the bold chrome slat grille from the KCD III Mesa Concept shown in 2005.

The Borrego will pack a standard 3.8L V6 powering in the 250-270 horsepower range. The upper-models will receive the anticipated 4.6L Tau V8 with horsepower levels in the 300's. The press release only indicated the availability of a V8. Kia boasts the largest towing capacity to date of a Kia with the Borrego. Built on a body-on-frame platform, the Borrego ought to create some needed competition with other BOF offerings like the Ford Explorer. Albeit the design flows very nicely and is frankly sleeker than the Explorer's, we question the time of the Borrego's entrance to the dying BOF SUV market.

The Borrego will arrive at your local Kia dealerships during late spring or early summer of 2008 as a 2009 model. As always, Kia will tag every Borrego with an impressive 10-year/100,000-mile warranty. Pricing will be announced closer to the sales date.

TheCarBlogger Goes Seoul-o

For those who still hang on to us and check our blog every so often, I thank you very much and I can't find the right words to express my gratitude towards you folks. For long periods ever so often since the end of the summer break, TheCarBlogger has been facing unexpected hiatuses disappointing many of our daily readers. The number of our visitors dropped significantly from an average level of 600 visitors to somewhere near the 200 level. This drop prompted me to find out the best solution for this problem, so it benefits you.

Since the first day of the opening of TheCarBlogger, the majority of our articles reported on cars and news in North America. We also had quite a few international articles. You might have also noticed that we like to report on events occurring in South Korea. Exclusive spy reports of the upcoming models from Hyundai and Kia were frequent and it was those articles that garnered the most attention to our site from around the world. Add to that, the popularity of Korean automobiles has gone through the roof over the recent years. So, what does this even have to do with the big news waiting to be unleashed. Well, you already have somewhat of an idea now.

From today, TheCarBlogger is your source for the latest automotive news sprouting from the Korean automotive industry. As a Korean myself, TheCarBlogger gains great advantages over other international automotive websites that need more than a Google Translator to report on the latest reports from Seoul. This change means more than just news from the Far East. TheCarBlogger will also be here to report on the latest news of Korean automakers around the world, including the U.S. and Europe. Has Ferrari officially signed the deal to officially enter the Korean market (actually, they will officially on November 16th)? TheCarBlogger will be here.

So, with all this corporate mumble, what advantages do you get? Well first, there is currently no professional Korean automotive blog that reports 100% in English anywhere on the web. That means no more digging on Bobaedream with Babelfish or a Google Translator. Exclusive information and images regarding upcoming Korean cars will be right here. I can proudly concur that:

TheCarBlogger is the first English Korean automotive blog on the web.

I would very much appreciate feedback on this change and throughout the course of the week, you'll be seeing some physical changes made to the blog. We're in the process of implementing a new domain as well.
