Honda is really good at keeping secrets under their roofs. The only indication of the next generation Accord was the Honda Accord Coupe Concept shown in this year's NAIAS. It was the preview concept of the next generation Accord Coupe. Today, a member of HowardForums, posted camera-phone pics of the next Accord Coupe, with fairly light disguise, testing on the road. Our first impression was: we like it.
The new Accord Sedan and Coupe will receive Honda's new A-VTEC engine with VCM (Variable Cylinder Management). The front end shots suggest Honda made little changes from the concept, in a good way. Projector headlamps are visible. The side profile is gorgeous with no changes made from the concept other than the dramatic side flare shown on the concept. We turn to the rear and we are in love. The only part of the concept we didn't like, the tuner-ish taillights, is gone in place of conventional LED taillight formats. The rear cues the Civic Coupe sibling. The interior is not visible, albeit we see a bit of what appears to be either a digital speedometer, found in the Civic, or an information system on the dash.
Expect the Accord Coupe and Sedan to be shown in September of this year and sales to kick off next spring. We like what we see and we expect this to be another huge success for Honda's sales records.
